I began to play with different kinds of blocks, some of the names were like T.E.N.T. and Loc Bloc. There was a wooden block, I don't remember what its name was. Of course, Lego. I didn't really start being more focused on Lego until I became probably 15 or 16. As a true hobby. That's when I started to watch for discounted sets at Toys R Us and Lional Kiddie City. I could get the blue box 950-piece sets for $20 and that was the score. I purchased Legos from 1986 to about 1993 at Toys R Us and Lional Kiddie City. When our local Lional Kiddie City closed, I bought a palette of 36 boxes blue box 950-piece sets for $10 a set. Along with another 100 different and alike sets for $5.00 apiece. That's what really sparked the whole collection of Legos. 1988 when I got my first place, I had one stipulation. I must have a designated room just for my Legos. That was just for the number of Legos that I had purchased in two years. At the time I was using an 8 by 8 board. It basically took up the entire room and made it very interesting to get around. Of course, I look back to those days and we didn't have the pieces that we have now we had some unique pieces but most of it was blocks and I would build these giant block cities. It was so awesome. As the internet came along with eBay, that really fueled my need for that perfect beautiful brick.
I believe in my artist heart that all artist have a visual gift of seeing an image with their eye and while processing it through our imagination, we are able to translate that image in a medium we have learn to bend to our will. As I developed what had become a full fledge hobby, I started to put the down. When some one hand me 3 photos of a very cool military jet and ask if I could recreate this out of Lego’s. When it came to Lego’ I never said no. I like the challenge. Guests would visit and challenge me to build something. After two weeks of studying the photos, I built the jet. It was perfect. Of course, this was 1989, and I don’t have a single photo left of it (out of the two photos I took of it). But that is when I realized I could look at an image and recreate it almost perfectly.
My Experience is unique. It has been something that I have done on a continuous daily basis over the last 40 years. Of course, when I was a child in my mind I was just putting together blocks. As I got older, I realized that it was some kind of satisfaction to see my imagination start putting together the great and grand creations. That I now call “The Project” Over the last 17 years I have built some great projects. My rendition of the USS 69 Aircraft Carrier, My rendition of Castel Neuschwanstein. A layout of Saint Augustine Landmarks. Peter Pans Never Never land, Past meets Future. And that is just in the past 17 years.
